I recently read Land Tal's article, Factors to consider when buying a car. Her article highlights many valuable considerations when making the decision to buy a car and what type of vehicle will suit your needs. It reminded me of our last car purchase, which was the best buying experience we ever had! After the decision is made about what car to buy, here are some tips to make the actual purchase experience a good one for you too. The first thing to do is to arrange for financing. Check current loan interest rate on your credit union, banking and producer financing options. Take time to ask for and evaluate your personal credit report, usually available on-line or by making a phone call to request a copy be sent to you. Knowing your own credit ratings and credit score prevent you from being surprised by anything that might come up while seeking funding. In most cases, the final agreement is conditional upon final inspection of the trade-in vehicle. After you and your seller have agreed on a final agreement, the rest is relatively smooth sailing. It is probably a fact universally true that what goes for "home" type of Indian cusiine and say "typical Indian food (as described in recipe books)" are as different as chalk and cheese, or should I say , cayenne pepper and sugar. I grew up in a vegetarian household, and in a land which was rich in the variety of seasonal vegetables that you came on the market. There was not a concept of "Indian fast food", as such, in my childhood, but we immensely enjoyed and looked forward to the various dishes that came from our family kitchen. Learning to live alone at the university in the United States demanded that I get some experience in this kitchen, if I were not to admit defeat before the powers as McDonalds, KFC and subways. Recipes found in books often stress things like stirfrying onions until "oil separates on the side", etc. which is an immediate early book-closing-turn-off for a person looking for healthy meals.So here are some tips from "home". The oil is NOT the cooikng medium but it is more like a dressing. Here you can pour the vegetables in the dressing, and pipe instead of pouring dressing on veggies. The basic "dressing". You can spend a lot less oil if you steam the veggies, slightly before the spice them up. One of the things that works well for me is what is called a corn-cooker-steamer. I found it at one of the hypermarkets ages ago and it actually consists of an outer vessel, where you put water, and an inner container with a perforated bottom and sides to fit in. The whole thing is like a foot high and has a semi-dome-shaped lid that fits really well. What I do is cut and steam my veggies at the same time in various small containers in this "stove". I even cook my rice while with them. The strange is that one doesn't have to cook everything at the same intensity as for example in a pressure cooker. Cauliflower is necessary to boil a little when some beans take longer. But the good thing is that unlike pressuer cooker, I can add and remove things pious this cooker / steamer as and how needed. When this sauce produces things are added, and nicely cooked, you can add your steamed veggies, salt, cayenne pepper, and also something called "masala" which is a spice mixture available in Asian stores. Stir the veggies nicely, cover and let simmer. Add a couple teaspoons of water to loosen up sauce and let the veggies to marinate in the heat. When your veggies are already cooked, your "curry is ready after 5-7 minutes of simmering. Those consumed with ordinary rice, spicy rice, wheat tortillas, whole wheat bread, and everything you can think of that can be used to dry and slurp up the wonderful vegetable curry. This method of cooking uses very little oil, the taste very fresh and can be cooked in a jiffy if you have steamed vegetables and stored earlier in the day in the refrigerator. I often add a teaspoon of ground flax seed Rosted to gravy mixture before adding veggies. Its good for you, the "body" to the sauce, and taste wonderful. Adding flax here is NOT a traditional Indian stuff. Its my innovation keep in mind that new information on helath benefits, I learn.Things as potatoes, beans can be soaked garbanzos, etc be cooked in pressure cooker, the savings in fuel and correct enough cooking. An Indian meal is always incomplete without lettuce. In contrast to western meals, Indian meals are all served together, and not in several courses. A typical salad would be, say carrots and raddishes grated and seasoned with salt, ground cumin powder, mustard paste, finely chopped green chilli and coriander, all nicely mixed with yogurt and served. The mustard paste actually puts a pep in your nostril, a quick swirl of mustard and lemon juice in blender ensures that. The yogurt temper this and the concoction is ideally set off and cools the remaining rice and curry meal. Almost any item can be mixed salad with yoghurt and held as an accessory. A mixture of all the above salad items, neatly chopped (as they marinate in each other's natural juice), salt, pepper, a pinch of Hing and squeezed lemon, tastes wonderful with tortillas, between mouthfuls of exciting vegetable curry. Sometimes you can also use the kind of "oil dressing" used in veggie-cooking (explained earlier) to pour in salad mixes, to give a little more crisp taste. In contrast to veggies that you add to the cooking sauce, pour yourself this dressing on raw salads and stir well. A boiled / baked, peeled and chopped potato, added to these salads, made in sufficient quantities, often only as a quick filling lunch salad. Poppadums, usually served fried, need not always be served so. At home we routinely cook the papad with seaweed in a fire. Roasted ppads are healthier and tats even more wonderful. Some people I know even roast papad in the microwave. This may not be as exciting as those for whom browning and aroma of roasting papad causing a surplus of drooling …. A lovely Indian daily meal is often accompanied by a slightly spicy, glass buttermilk. This is thin in consistency, and gives a hint of ginger and green Peper and coriander spice. Some drink it with their meal and some drinks at the conclusion that a cooling nectar to wash down the hot spices that may have just got the senses in an overdrive mode … Rice in India are often accompanied by "valley" which actually corresponds to pulses / legumes. This is out most important source of protein. Typically, soaked and cooked with double quantity of water in a pressure cooker, the cooked dal is often mixed with your rice with salt, a squeeze of lemon, a dollop some ghee (clarified butter) and relished with some typical Indian pickle, adding that hint of exciting spices. A little complicated variations of valley involve the addition of "oil dressing: equal to the veggies, sometimes a mix of vegetables added to this cooked dal, and the usual salt, cayenne pepper, and masala powder mixture is added along with a new addition - a little tamarind, preferably soaked and pureed form. A typical solid meal that would be rice, dal, veggies, tortillas and a salad with buttermilk. We dont really overdo the oil thing, and the tortillas are made fresh and "on line", as such, from the whole wheat dough. In today's world where everyone is in a hurry, and sit-down, lazy meals are a relic of a bygone era, people often make either rice or tortillas for a lunch meal, but not both, as a satiety factor so you can go back fresh to work instead of feeling like taking a wonderful aternoon nap. Maybe you can get those recipe books out on a weekend and cook a delicious Indian meal and a special event to enjoy all the "rich" cooking recipes.And wondering if the recipes need to be "rich" or you must be "rich" in health.
